New Uniform Guidance for September 2026

As part of our ongoing commitment to equity, inclusion, and poverty proofing across our Trust (Gosforth Group), we have reviewed our school uniform expectations for September 2026.

This review follows updated Department for Education guidance on the affordability of school uniforms and reflects our determination to ensure that our uniform remains accessible to all families.

To support this, we have reduced the number of items that require a school logo to the following:

    • School navy round neck sweatshirt with logo*
    • School navy polo shirt with logo*
    • School royal blue PE polo shirt with logo*

*These items should be purchased from our approved uniform supplier, Michael Sehgal & Sons Ltd. Other items can be purchased from any supplier or retail store.

    School Coats

With immediate effect, families will no longer be required to purchase/provide a specific school coat. We understand that parents wish to choose a coat suitable for changing weather conditions, and we want to remove the need for pupils to own a separate coat exclusively for school.

To ensure coats remain practical and appropriate for school, we ask that they meet the following guidance:

    • Coats should be in keeping with our high expectations for standards of dress. Denim, leather, and camouflage-style coats are not permitted.
    • We recommend coats that are warm, waterproof, and include reflective elements to support pupil safety when travelling to and from school.
    • Coats must not be worn inside the school building, and pupils should be able to store them in their school bag during the day.
    • We strongly advise against purchasing expensive, branded coats. Please note that the school cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to individual items.

Please note that the current uniform requirements remain unchanged until the end of the summer term.

    September 2026 Uniform Requirements

    Main School Uniform:

    • A suitable warm and waterproof coat which can be stored in the school bag during the day (please see guidance above)
    • Navy polo shirt with logo*
    • Navy round neck sweatshirt with logo*
    • Plain black tailored school trousers or black knee-length tailored shorts or a black knee-length pleated skirt (which is pleated all the way round).
    • Plain and smart black, sensible school footwear (trainers or boots are not permitted)
    • Grey, black or white socks or plain tights (not patterned)
    • A suitable bag which can hold your school equipment, books, PE kit and coat.

    PE Uniform:

    • PE plain navy or black shorts or joggers/ tracksuit bottoms or sports leggings
    • Plain navy round neck sweatshirt. If you already have the royal blue PE jumper with the school logo, this is also still acceptable (PE jumper is an optional item)
    • Royal blue polo shirt with logo*
    • Sports Socks
    • Training shoes with non-marking soles (not leisure shoes, boots or plimsolls)

Uniform items with a logo* should be purchased from our uniform supplier, Michael Sehgal & Sons Ltd. Uniform items without a logo can be purchased from any retailer.

All existing uniform items, with or without the school logo, that met our previous uniform requirements may continue to be worn until they naturally need replacing.

    General guidance:

We consider wearing a school uniform to be very important, and we appreciate the support of our parents, carers, and guardians in helping us maintain our high standards.

We expect students to come to school looking tidy and presentable:

    • Jewellery, including earring are not allowed in school.
    • A watch is allowed; however, please note that Smart Watches are not allowed.
    • All students must wear a suitable school coat to and from school. Coats need to be removed inside the school building, including any non-uniform jumpers, hoodies or fleeces.
    • Personal stereos and/or headphones should not be worn while in the school building.
    • Mobiles should be switched off or on silent and remain in the school bag throughout the school day.
    • Hair should be a natural colour without extreme styles, including shaved heads, tramlines, or dyed hair.
    • Hair accessories should be plain black, navy or white and not excessive.
    • Religious headwear should be plain black, navy or white.
    • Natural looking make-up is permitted.
    • Makeup, false nails and nail varnish are not to be worn in school.

It is recommended that all uniform and personal property items be labelled with the student's name to facilitate their return.

Please note that our lists may not cover every item. If you have any questions about our uniform requirements, we encourage you to check with our school office before making any purchases. The Senior Leadership Team will make the final decision on what is deemed suitable for uniform. Uniforms will be checked by staff daily.

    Current Uniform Requirements

We expect students to come to school looking tidy and presentable. The wearing of jewellery and makeup is forbidden. Please ensure that any ear piercings are done at least 6 weeks prior to the start of school in September (to allow the piercing to heal and establish), as the wearing of ear rings is not permitted in school. Watches are, of course, perfectly acceptable. We reserve the right to decide what is a reasonable style and colour of hair. No stepped haircuts or patterned haircuts are allowed. If you wish for your child to wear religious head wear, it must be plain black or navy blue. If your child has long hair it should be tied back. This is a health and safety issue.

We ask for your co-operation in not allowing your child to wear denims, canvas trousers or trainers for school.

All clothes and personal property must be marked with the child's name - this makes finding lost items so much easier - and surprisingly most children do tend to lose things at some point in their school life! Labels are available from many of the main shops in Newcastle.

    All students:

    • A suitable warm and waterproof coat which can be stored in the school bag during the day (please see guidance above)
    • Navy polo* shirt with badge
    • Navy round neck sweater* with badge
    • Black tailored school trousers or black school skirt which should be of a traditional school skirt design and must not be too tight or too short (round about knee length is acceptable) or black tailored shorts
    • Formal black dress shoes, not trainers (or anything that resembles trainers)
    • Grey or black socks or black plain tights (not patterned).
    • Navy or black, school backpack (with or without school logo) is mandatory for all pupils

    * Items to be purchased from Michael Sehgal & Sons Ltd.

    All students PE/sports wear

    • Royal blue sweatshirt* with badge
    • Royal blue polo shirt* with badge
    • Plain navy or black shorts or black tracksuit bottoms
    • Sport socks
    • Training shoes with non-marking soles (no boots, plimsolls or black soled will be permitted)

    * Items to be purchased from Michael Sehgal & Sons Ltd.

Additional items may be required for some extra curricular activities e.g. football boots or mouth guards. Pupils and parents/carers will be notified if these are required.

We reserve the right to determine suitability for school. Please ask before you buy if you are in any doubt.

    Pre-owned Uniform

We encourage the donation of pre-owned uniform in good re-usable condition. This can be dropped off at the school and will then be distributed to families who request it.

    Financial Support with Uniform Costs

If you are finding it difficult to purchase school uniform because of your financial circumstances we may be able to provide you with support. Please contact the school for further details and to submit an application. We will assess applications received based on individual circumstances.
