SATs Week: Monday 13 May – Friday 17 May 2024
As you know, SATs week will occur next week, from Monday 13 to Friday 17 May. The Year 6 students will sit one or two papers (see timetable on reverse) each morning. For some, this might be a worrying time and we would like to take the opportunity to outline suggestions that might help ease the concerns of both students and parents.
Wake up with Exercise!
Each morning, our PE department will run Morning Sports, open to all Year 6 students from 8am. Please arrive at the main reception for this (with your trainers in your school bag). Games and physical activity will be on offer to ensure our students are physically ready for the day ahead. Experts agree that exercise promotes positive emotions that help to combat stress, boost self-confidence and increase creativity and problem solving, so what better way to start each SAT morning?
Brain Breakfast Club
As breakfast is the most important meal of the day, we will be offering a free breakfast for Year 6, which will be available from 8.15am (or after your exercise) on each test morning. We encourage all students who can, to take this opportunity as it will be an enjoyable and relaxing way to begin each morning. Enter school via main reception from 8.15am.
Snack and Relax
At the end of each test session, there will be time given to relax with friends. All of Year 6 will go to the dining hall for a snack (provided by school) before going outside for an extended break. The remainder of the day will follow the normal school routine. As students will be on second lunch (12.40pm - 1.30pm), a fruit/vegetable snack would be a good idea to bring in for morning break (keep in bookbag and not inside packed lunch).
SATs Rewards Assembly
On Thursday afternoon, once all the assessments are finished, we will come together for a SATs Rewards Assembly. A number of rewards will be given, including all students who have had 100% attendance for this half term. Currently each week, students are able to gain raffle tickets for demonstrating positivity, resilience and great attitudes to learning in Maths and English. We are running Leaderboards in each set and the students at the top of their set Leaderboard by the end of SATs week will receive a £50 Amazon voucher!
Timetable
We have set out a timetable for SATs week, most students will be with their set teacher in a classroom environment.
It is vitally important that students attend every day during SATs week. Arrangements can be made for anyone who may need extra assistance. If your child cannot attend school, please phone the school and ask to speak to Miss Whaley. This is due to alternative arrangements will need to be made for absent pupils to sit the assessment on their return to school.

Sleep Tips
We would really encourage all our Year 6 students to have a good night's sleep during assessment week. The NHS recommend 9.5 - 10 hours of sleep for Year 6 students. It is well known that lack of sleep affects concentration levels, so please support your child’s sleeping habits especially during this important week.
What to bring for SATs week
Students will be provided will all the necessary equipment for the tests, however, they still need to bring their usual school equipment for the rest of the day. They must bring in a filled water bottle and we recommend a healthy snack for morning break, as they are on second lunch (12.40 - 1.30pm). Trainers are required for Morning Sports too.
We will be using their Revision Guides throughout the week so please ensure they are packed every day.
We want to take this opportunity to say ‘well done’ to all our students who have worked so hard this year and reassure them and yourselves that SATs week is about just trying their best. It is important that they have the opportunity to do this, so we would encourage everyone to attend school during SATs week.
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us at school. Thank you for your continued support.
Yours faithfully,
Ms S Whaley, Assistant Principal KS2 and Mrs L Carlin, Assistant Principal KS2
